Introduction…

What is this website Steve?

Not sure really… Half profile, half blog, half business. That all adds up to one and a half, so that means it’s good! It’s obviously going to be fairly focused around me and at this point I should mention that it will mostly be about the business of video games; making them, making the businesses that make them, and hopefully connecting with a few people along the way.

Anyway, a thought struck me the other day. I’ve been part of and founded a few very different games companies over the last 20 years. The last company I co-founded, The Multiplayer Group, was built from 3 people to 320 (when I left) and now commands a very strong position as the industry’s leading multiplayer developer, helping tens of AAA teams deliver better games across the globe at any one time. As COO and co-founder, my job role changed a lot from very early start-up mentality where you do literally everything, through to acquisition and all the questions and new situations that brings. After that we went through periods of strong and rapid growth and when i left we were moving steadily into a consolidation phase. I left MPG in the summer of 2022 for some family time, but I’m now I’m feeling like getting back to doing stuff again. As I said at the beginning of this paragraph, a thought struck me that my experiences could be helpful to other video game start ups that are treading over new ground and maybe feel a little exposed or uncertain and would benefit from being able to talk to someone else who has been through similar experiences. Others call that mentorship or consultancy, and those are good words, but for some people they are daunting words, so it could also be just having a like-minded person to chat to or run things by. Contact me if you want to have an initial conversation…

I’d love you to get in touch and chat about your video games business. Press the green button!
